One of the most eagerly awaited and exciting events in our Academy calendar is the Critchley Scholarship awards ceremony. In December, the 5th cohort of this most prestigious of awards were presented with their scholarships by Elizabeth Critchley, a successful businesswoman and a Partner of Ripplewood Advisors Limited.

2022/23 marks a departure from previous years when 2 Academy students were chosen as Critchley Scholars, as this 5th cohort comprises a deserved trio of students recently awarded this wonderful opportunity; Maryam Mahiddine, Vienna Muhaxheri and Viola Muhaxheri (Level 3) were chosen from a group of high achieving female students and over the course of the next 2 years, will receive mentoring from Elizabeth Critchley and other industry professionals, courtesy of a bespoke programme of visits and talks.

As an Alumni of UCL, Elizabeth believes “the only ceiling to achievement is your own ambition.”, and as such, these students will ultimately be guided and inspired to achieve their fullest potential while studying for their A Levels and beyond.

The 2022/23 Critchley Scholars said:

Maryam Mahiddine: “I feel extremely grateful I have been able to achieve such a great opportunity for myself. Having put so much time and effort into my application, I am immensely proud of the result. I hope to gain confidence and independence from this programme as well as guidance and experience that will help pave my future path. I believe that this opportunity will make me grow into more of a well rounded young individual who has gained the skills to tackle the working world.”

Viena Muhaxheri: “ I feel very proud to have been chosen for this and to be one of the 3 sholars out of many competitive applicants. I really put thought into the application and what I would use the scholarship for, so the fact it became a real opportunity for me excites me. In the Critchley Scholarship, I hope to achieve deeper knowledge in the field I am interested in and also put myself out of my comfort zone more often.”

Viola Muhaxheri: “I am honoured and very grateful to receive such a reward. It is a great weight off my shoulders and has further broadened my horizons for my aspirations in the future. I hope to travel and see the conditions of areas in the world and see how I can help to improve the state of these areas with architecture.”

Many of our previous Critchley Scholars are now studying at University or working in industry and we very much look forward to following the progress of our current cohort during their time in our Sixth Form and beyond.

As always, we would like to express our sincere and deep gratitude to Elizabeth Critchley for her unwavering support and dedication.
