Vision and Ethos

From day one, students at The UCL Academy Sixth Form experience an inspirational world class education built on a culture of academic excellence, social responsibility and a transformational curriculum, developed in partnership with our sponsor, University College London. Here you can find out more about the ethos that drives teaching and learning at The UCL Academy.

Our students leave The Academy with the tools, experiences, values, knowledge and skills to reach their potential and take part as global citizens in the 21st century.

Our staff  are committed to exploring, testing and reviewing the most effective teaching and learning to ensure that our pedagogy is the most impactful, innovative, and transformational it can be and our curriculum offers breadth, depth and balance for all our learners to go out into the work to make a difference.

Our community is inclusive, supportive, open-minded and engaged, making the most of the support of our sponsor, parent and local community associations, global and national school partners and networks.

The Vision and Ethos of our Sixth Form is embedded in your experience from the moment you apply. Our rich programme of transition studies, partnerships with exceptional organisations beyond the Academy, master-classes, seminars and summer schools are all part of our commitment to provide Encounters with Excellence. This is best exemplified through our day-to-day relationship with our sponsor UCL, one of the world’s leading Universities, where we are able to make use of their library, laboratories, teaching facilities and staff. UCL students provide mentoring to support the academic and personal journey and these experiences build on and extend learning beyond the classroom and support the transition from Sixth Form to University teaching.

We are committed to the development of the whole person, our students not only leave with exceptional academic results but also with the attributes we consider essential to being global citizens. We monitor these as part of our assessment of student progress and attainment and our rigorous tutoring programme and mentoring support ensures this is an enriching experience. The two years in our Sixth Form is pivotal in the lives of our students, our ambition is that all of our students should leave with the cultural capital to benefit them throughout their lives. They will have life enhancing experiences that facilitate social change, we give our students opportunities that they will be able to refer back to in the future, enabling them to stand out, as well as develop cultured, well-qualified, internationally minded, proactive autonomous ethical citizens, ready to make a positive difference in the world.
