Psychology

Our aim in psychology is to develop student’s understanding of key psychological theories and concepts, as well as assess the impact they have had on society.  Our students will develop the mindset to be able to be critical thinkers and be able to evaluate a wide range of psychological research using a range of issues and debates.

Key Stage 5

A Level psychology is a broad and varied curriculum.  In Research Methods students explore and evaluate how psychologists conduct research; and this includes them designing, conducting and writing up some small scale research projects of their own.  In Core Studies they explore 20 core studies that are divided into five different areas of psychology: Social, Cognitive, Developmental, Biological and Individual differences.  Then in Applied Psychology they study three units: Issues in Mental Health, Criminal Psychology and Child Psychology.
