Government and Politics
Studying A-Level Government and Politics will provide insight into political beliefs central to an understanding of the modern world. It also develops analytical and evaluative skills in relation to interesting topics prevalent in the turbulent political climate of today.
The course also provides a foundation of political knowledge on which to develop skills for citizenship and university study. Example degree courses which generally require or accept Politics A-level include Politics, Economics, Journalism, Law, International Relations, History and Social Policy.
Politics at A level is one of the most popular subjects at UCL Academy and the department has been going from strength to strength. We are a passionate team of politics teachers who will help you to engage in the world we live in today and our place within it. We will talk to you about the issues in the world that really matter to you and help you actively engage in current political debate.
Key Stage 5
Here at UCL Academy, we use the AQA exam board Paper 1 UK politics including topics such as; democracy in the context of the UK, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the role of the media. It also includes the structures, systems and institutions that make up our governmental system such as; UK constitution, parliament, prime ministerial power and the judicial system. the US Constitution, US federalism, US Supreme Court and civil rights and US Congress. Paper 2: US politics includes the same topics for the US system but also includes civil rights. This paper is then compared against the UK system. Paper 3 Political Ideas: this paper focuses on a theoretical and ideological understanding of why we think the way we do about the world we live in.

The Houses of Parliament https://www.parliament.uk/ to see government in practise. You can book a tour or turn up and be in the viewing gallery at Prime Minister’s Question time.
The Supreme Court https://www.supremecourt.uk/, go and experience the justices in the Supreme Court pass judgement on some of the most significant political cases of the day.
