Principal’s Welcome
Thank you for visiting the UCL Academy website. We opened our doors in 2012 with an ambitious vision for how a diverse school in inner London could, with the support and inspiration of one of the world’s leading universities, inspire all of our students to fulfil their potential and achieve success, regardless of background.
Today, we are starting to realise the vision that inspired our founders. Our first GCSE results in 2017 were well above the national average, and 30% of our 6th-form students, on average, now go on to study at Russell Group universities. Our students are able to take advantage of our sponsor UCL’s world class facilities and expertise from their very first school day, which they spend at the university, and are exposed to university life throughout their Academy career.
We strongly believe that you can have academic excellence alongside a culture of inclusivity. At the Academy we emphasise education of the whole person, whether through self-directed learning, in which all students participate as part of a longer Academy day, or our collaborative learning programme, which emphasises the contribution each member of the group must make for the outcome to be successful.
Every student belongs to one of five Houses throughout their time at the Academy, ensuring they benefit from academic and pastoral support from their tutors, their learning sets and their Heads of House, in other words those who know them best.
In summary, at The UCL Academy we are dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence within a safe and welcoming environment.
