Physical Education
Our aim in Physical Education is to develop citizens who are knowledgeable and competent to remain physically active throughout their lifetime. Our young people will have the skill set and confidence to participate in a range of sporting and physical activities at any stage of their life. They will have developed the core values needed to be responsible and active citizens who can make a difference in society.
Key Stage 3
Physical Education lessons are 100 minutes and students in Key Stage 3 have 1 double lesson a week. From Foundation onwards, students have the opportunity to develop a wide range of fundamental movement skills which allow them to develop the confidence and competence to be expert movers. Students develop skills, knowledge and understanding in a wide range of activities from Trampolining and Table Tennis to Basketball and Innebandy (please see our learning journeys for a more detailed overview of the subject areas). As students move into Key Stage 4 they have more choice in the activities they participate in as we try to give students ownership of their own physical health and well-being.
Key Stage 4
GCSE Physical and Sport Education builds on the knowledge and understanding developed in Key Stage 3 whilst developing students theoretical understanding in anatomy and physiology, sport psychology, biomechanics, physical training, socio-cultural issues and health and well-being. Key Stage 4 students have 2 single lessons a week.
In Cambridge National Sport Studies, students also continue to build on their practical skills whilst developing their understanding of different types of leaders, how to run a sporting event, developing skills to apply for a job and learning about the socio-cultural issues in sport.
