Careers Education

Careers Education

Vision and intent of our careers programme

At The UCL Academy we aim to raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes and encourage students to consider a wide range of careers. Through careers education and guidance we encourage all students to make the most of their talents and to go on to jobs or courses which suit their needs and aptitude.

We are committed to:

  • the promotion of equal opportunities and trying to use every opportunity to challenge stereotypes and encourage all students to achieve and to be ambitious
  • the provision of resources and advice to ensure that careers education is seen as part of the overall curriculum and learning framework for all years
  • involving a wide range of local, national and global employers, and higher and further education representatives, in careers activities for our students, to provide role models, workplace insights, and a deeper understanding of the different career sectors available to them and the qualifications they need to succeed
  • involving staff, students, parents and carers in the further development of careers work
  • working with Camden Connexions so that no student is disadvantaged in gaining access to education, training or work

We recognise that the process of making career decisions is a lengthy one and that most of our students will make their final choices only after completing their higher education. We ensure that at every level in the students’ experience at The UCL Academy, there are opportunities for career advice and guidance.

In particular, we intend our students to:

  • prepare for careers and challenges that don’t exist yet
  • develop a broad understanding of the job market whilst gaining the ability to respond to changing opportunities
  • develop independent research skills so that they can make good use of information and guidance
  • develop and use their self-knowledge when thinking about and making choices
  • develop the skills they need to review achievements, plan future actions, make decisions, present themselves well and cope with change and transition.

A heartfelt 🙏 to all the parents who dedicated their time & effort to prepare delicious food for our annual International Evening yesterday. A truly inspirational celebration of the rich & diverse cultures that make up our academy community. #culinary talents & #cultural pride.

Yr10 Psychology students enjoyed a day at London zoo, taking part in a workshop on Animal Learning & Intelligence, exploring the difference between innate & learned behaviours & how conditioning influences animal behaviour. Bringing #Psychology to life beyond the classroom. 🐧🕷️
